Wyoming Pathways Active Transportation and Trails Community Needs Survey

With the recent momentum for Active Transportation and Outdoor Recreation projects in Wyoming your input about projects that could positively impact your community is particularly important.

Information gathered from the 2021 “Wyoming Active Transportation Community Needs Survey” and the subsequent 2022 “Wyoming Active Transportation Community Needs Interim Survey” was instrumental in gaining support for Active Transportation and Outdoor Recreation funding legislation in the 2023 Wyoming legislative session. We are hoping to keep that momentum going throughout the year and into the next session and beyond.

This new Survey is again open to towns, cities, counties, nonprofits, and the general public. Please fill out the survey questions and let us know what type of help you need. Documenting these active transportation and outdoor recreation needs will help us to continue to show the demand that exists around Wyoming.

It is important to remember that Active Transportation and trail projects can have myriad positive impacts on Wyoming Communities:

• It is about safety — for kids and people of all ages as they walk or ride their bikes to school, work and errands around town. Newer, more sustainable and better maintained trails are safer and more fun to recreate on.

• It is about physical and mental well-being — we will be cutting healthcare costs for the State of Wyoming and its citizens by creating greater and easier access to walkable and bikeable pathways and trails that are safe, all while helping folks experience better total health and well-being.

• It is about economic development — communities across the State and the Nation see immediate and direct growth of their economies when folks have access to walkable and bikeable pathways and trails. Further, businesses are more likely to succeed and be started in communities with access to trails networks (both soft surface and hard surface).

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon’s proposal to make best use of new federal funding Wyoming will receive from the American Rescue Plan is focused on creating “a future where Wyoming can thrive”. Community-identified Active Transportation projects would help fulfill many of the Governor’s objectives, including:

• Have a long term impact or a return on investment.
• Be sustainable.
• Support stimulus over relief.
• Where possible, leverage the dollars.
• Create capacity for the future.
• Benefit a wide group of citizens.

We will also be making survey results available online via a customizable reporting tool. This will enable anyone interested in viewing the result for specific parameters, such as location, estimated cost, etc. As stated above, your voice really makes a difference and your input is vital to understanding the Active Transportation and Outdoor Recreation needs for your community, so please….
